A CRAFT OF ANDHRA PRADESH

The story of Etikoppaka Bommalu

Etikoppaka, a village beside the Varaha River in Andhra Pradesh, is known for its traditional wooden lacquer craft. Artisans shape wood on a lathe and apply coloured lac as it turns, creating the smooth finish and lively colours associated with this craft.

From deity figures to miniature scenes and decorative boxes, these forms bring everyday life and familiar stories into the home. They are also part of gifting traditions and festive displays such as Bommala Koluvu.
